Hywel Griffiths Bwtrimawr Ammanford

HYWEL GRIFFITHS BWTRIMAWR & SONS

Betws

Pan symudodd John ac Elizabeth Griffiths i’r ardal ger Rhydaman o Langynnwr ger Caerfyrddin, roedd Dyffryn Aman bryd hwnnw yn datblygu’n gyflym gan ei fod yng nghanol y meusydd glo. Yma yn y Betws felly fe sefydlodd eu mab, Thomas Griffiths, ei fusnes yn 1875. Roedd y busnes bychan bryd hwnnw yn cynnig gwasanaeth saer coedynghyd ag ymgymeryd ac fe aeth y fenter yn ei blaen gyda’i fab, David John Griffiths wrth y llyw.

Gyda’r genhedlaeth nesaf daeth ei ddau fab ef, Hywel a Lyn Griffiths yn ymgymerwyr, yn bennaf ar gyfer ardaloedd Betws, Garnswllt a’r pentrefi cyfagos yn y gymdogaeth. Trwy gydol ei oes faith fe gafodd Hywel gymorth ei feibion, Peter a Keith fel yr oedd y busnes yn datblygu ac yn tyfu i weini i Ddyffryn Aman. Gyda Pete a Keith wrth y llyw fe ddatblygodd y busnes i gynnwys cwmni adeiladwyr (Y Brodyr Griffiths) a seiri maen (Côf-Feini Griffiths) ynghyd â chwmni Ymgymerwyr Angladdau (Hywel Griffiths a’i Feibion). Maent wedi llwyddo i ennill enw da iddynt eu hunain yn yr ardal am eu gofal a’u gwasanaeth personol.

Yn 1990 ymunodd Richard Williams gyda’r cwmni fel ymgymerwr angladdau. Tyfodd y cwmni yn fwy wedyn a chymryd yr enw Cwmni Griffiths Bwtrimawr Y Betws er mwyn gwasanaethu Dyffryn Aman ar ei hyd, trwy ei gysylltiadau gyda chwmni Keith Morgan a’i Feibion (Glanaman), ardal Gwaun Cae Gurwen trwy Evan Rees a’i Feibion ac ardal Llandeilo trwy gwmni Douglas Davies.

Yn 2011 gwelwyd y bumed genhedlaeth o’r teulu’r Griffiths yn cymryd eu lle yn y cwmni pan ymunodd plant Peter Griffiths, Rhodri a Lowri. Roedd Rhodri wedi derbyn prentishaeth eisoes pan yn gweithio ar gangen adeiladol y cwmni. Wrth ymuno â’r gangen o ymgymerwyr parhaodd yntau yn y traddodiad teuluol o fod yn un newydd eto yn y cenedlaethau o seiri coed a fu yn y teulu.

Erbyn 2016, ymunodd Rhys a Euros, plant Keith Griffiths a’r Cwmni.

When John and Elizabeth Griffiths relocated from Llangunnor, near Carmarthen, to Betws in the Amman Valley, on the edge of the developing South Wales coalfield, their son Thomas Griffiths established the business in 1875.

The small carpentry, joinery and undertaking business continued with his son David John Griffiths and continued in to the next generation when sons Hywel Griffiths and Lyn Griffiths become well known builders, undertakers and carpenters serving primarily Betws, Garnswllt and villages adjoining Ammanford. Throughout his long working life and supported by his sons Peter and Keith the business continued to grow as funeral directors serving Ammanford and the Amman Valley. With Peter and Keith at the helm the business evolved as developers (Griffiths Brothers), monumental masons (Griffiths Memorials) and funeral directors (Hywel Griffiths and Sons) and have built a reputation for service and care that is well known through the area.

In 1990 Richard Williams joined the company as a funeral director. The business further progressed as Cwmni Griffiths Bwtrimawr Y Betws to serve the whole of the Amman Valley and Llandeilo through it’s associations with Keith Morgan and Sons, Evan Rees and Sons and Douglas Davies, Llandeilo.

2011 saw the company enter the 5th generation of the family when Peter Griffiths’ children, Rhodri and Lowri joined the company. Rhodri is now a funeral director with Griffiths Bwtrimawr having previously served his apprenticeship on the construction side of the company. In joining the funeral side of the business Rhodri maintained the tradition of each generation being carpenters and joiners.

By 2016, Keith Griffiths’ children, Rhys and Euros, had also joined the Company.
